Newtown Borough
E-News Update

And just like that, summer turns to fall and our focus turns to the school aged children. With back to school time quickly approaching, we'd like to remind all motorists of the importance of adhering to Pennsylvania's School Bus Stopping Law to keep everyone safe. Please check out this short video https://youtu.be/Pcz7Amkmx5E and watch your speeds in those school zones as well.

There are some fun and exciting events planned in September and October for the enjoyment of all! Included are a 9-11 Memorial/Recognition of First Responders, Beerfest to benefit the Newtown Fire Association, Newtown Rotary Block Party, Newtown Theatre's Black and White Dinner, Music in the Park, and Market Day/Newtown Library 5K. We hope you can participate in some or all of the community's festivities!

As we mentioned before, Borough Council is now meeting in person at the Chancellor Center. We've established our own YouTube Channel-Newtown Borough Pennsylvania to allow the public the opportunity to view along. Note that anyone wishing to participate in Public Comment, however, must be present in person. Council Meeting agendas are always posted on the website by the Friday afternoon preceding those meetings.

Our Committees, Commissions, and Boards are meeting at Borough Hall; those with a larger number of members and attending applicants offer the option to attend via Zoom. The Zoom links, as well as the agendas, can always be found on the website calendar.

As a reminder, August 31 is the discount deadline for school real estate and occupation tax payments. Given the error in the original mailing of this year's occupation tax bills, please make sure you're paying the correct bill dated July 8, 2021 if paying close to the deadline. Otherwise, you run the risk of paying at the face amount. See more information in the website scrolling news and please email taxcollector@boroughofnewtown.com if you have any questions.

Have you thought about volunteering in Newtown Borough? If so, please see Volunteer Openings.

If you have friends and neighbors in the Borough who may also be interested in staying informed, please forward the email and encourage them to sign up for E-News Alerts too.

Sincerely,
